The DNC ushers in 1984
George Orwell missed it by exactly 40 years.
(Just cleaning out my drafts folder. I should have published this one when I wrote it in August of last year.)
By chance, I watched the movie 1984 two nights ago. Tonight, I watched the Democratic National Convention. The similarities are uncanny.
If you haven’t read the book 1984 or seen the movie (free on Tubi), you might want to read a summary of it here. Briefly, the book is set in a world where people are not allowed to question anything the government says. There is a Ministry of Truth and wrongthink. The main character, Winston, is tortured relentlessly for doubting the state and “Big Brother.” During a torture session, his tormentor, O’brien, holds up four fingers and asks “How many fingers am I holding up.” The correct answer was five.
Here are some examples of how Democrats hold up one ideal and expect us to see something that is not there. They expect us to believe that:
They love Old Glory. At the DNC hundreds of American flags were being waved proudly. Interestingly, most Democrats would never fly Old Glory at their house. Instead, they fly the trans flag, the rainbow flag, the BLM flag or the American flag in the colors of Africa. There were reportedly 100,000 pro-Palestinian people at the convention. These folks regularly burn the American flag at their rallies. None of the flags the Democrats actually support were represented at the DNC. Where was the Trans flag for instance? Hiding it from independents who might decide to believe their lies.
They are not fascists. Trump is. The Democrats want us to believe that they are protecting Democracy from Donald Trump. Trump, they say, wants to be a dictator and will never leave the white house. Trump is the Democrats’ Emmanuel Goldstein. Just watch this clip and replace the name Goldstien with Trump. That’s what liberals look like when they see a clip of Trump. In fact, it is the Democrats who seek to never relinquish control. They want to get rid of the electoral college and push mail-in voting. Hillary Clinton cried foul in 2016, claiming the election was stolen, but in 2020, it was a perfectly free and fair election. Even though Biden won only 16% of the counties in America, he still supposedly won more votes than any president in history. Trump is a fascist! Throw things at him.
They are defenders of Freedom. To Democrats, freedom means you are free to agree with them. When they say “freedom” they mean “control.” They have co-opted the word, much like they have done with so many other words.
They are the truth tellers. Democrats are at heart a utilitarian group. To them, the ends always justify the means. They are free to lie, defraud, pretend and obfuscate. Anything is justified to get what they want. They say they are protecting us from misinformation. All the while they twist the language and rewrite history, much the same way that the government does in 1984.
Republicans are coming for you! Democrats love to use scary threats like, “Republicans are going to send us back into the past.” Ironically, progressives are the ones implementing regressive policies. They suppress the truth, create oppressive laws that force others to go against their consciences, and then call you a bigot if you don’t agree with them. That is not progressive. That’s called tyranny, and it is the part of history humanity has been trying to move out of since the dawn of time.
Republicans are against women’s health care! Democrats demand the right to abortion at any time and any stage of pregnancy. And if a baby survives a botched abortion (i.e. if the baby is alive outside the womb), Democrats demand the right to let the baby die. Not only that, they want taxpayers who disagree with these policies to fully fund abortions at any stage. They do not honor conscience rights of those who wish to abstain from their agenda. If you oppose abortion, you are considered misogynistic. Further, Democrats demand that we use our hard-earned money to “fully fund” Planned Parenthood and pay for things like pre-exposure prophylaxis (so that men can have condom-less sex with anyone they choose), MPox vaccines, condoms, etc. Democrats are the ones who are trampling the rights of others here. Not Republicans. Most Republicans are just asking to have the right NOT to participate in what we see as a culture of death.
Tim Walz is just a good ole boy.
Kamala is competent.
Democrats follow the science. No. They follow scienceism.
Boys will be girls.
