Pride (month) comes before the fall
I don’t believe God destroyed Sodom because of the gays. I propose that he destroyed Sodom because they gays were oppressing everyone else. And that’s a good lesson for us today.
This year, the LGBTQIA+ community has been rather quiet during June, dubbed “pride month.” That’s good. I needed a break. Not because I hate gays. I’m no homophobe. Regarding the Biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah, I have a different take than many Christians.
I don’t believe God destroyed Sodom because of the gays or even because of unbridled lust. I propose that he destroyed Sodom because the gays were oppressing everyone else. And that’s the lesson we could all learn today.
Here’s the story in the old testament. Abraham’s brother Lot was sitting at the gate of the city when two angels, in the form of men, entered into the city square on a mission from God to find out why the people were crying out. Lot begged them to stay in his house not in the courtyard as it wasn’t safe for them there.
The men of Sodom somehow got word that two new hunky guys were in town.
All the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. They called to Lot, ‘Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.
Genesis 19:5
Lot begged the men to leave them alone saying, “Do not do this wicked act.” But they would not be deterred. In a move that offends our sensibilities today, Lot offered them his virgin daughters instead. But no. The townsmen swore to include Lot in their orgiastic plot and to do even worse things to him than they were planning for the visitors.
The sin of Sodom then was not simply homosexuality. It was the logical outcome of unbridled lust: Oppression.
They gave others no choice but to participate in their sin.
Our friends in the LGBTQIA+ community are doing the same thing today. We no longer have the right to oppose their agenda. They have become the oppressors.
If we say that we disagree with their beliefs about gender identity, we are considered bigots. Teachers who refuse to use she/they pronouns for a student born male are fired for discrimination. Website designers and cake makers who don’t want to do work that goes against their consciences can lose their businesses. Girls have to compete against boys in sports. If a school board votes not to fly the LGBTQIA+ flag, the school district is considered “unsafe” for LGBTQIA+ people.
The LGBTQIA+ community has waged war against anyone who holds traditional values surrounding sexuality and the family. They force us to consent to the rightness, even righteousness, of their behavior. A billboard on one church in Tacoma, WA says, “We believe queer liberation is part of salvation.”
The term Queer liberation is important here and I think gets at the heart of the matter. The LGBTQIA+ movement is rooted in socialism, and socialism has no room for individual conscience rights. It IS oppression.
If the queer socialists get their way, we will not be allowed to follow our conscience. Will children be allowed to be taught, for instance, that being chaste for God is good, or that monogomy in marriage is good? The LGBTQIA+ community has no place for traditional Christians. To them, traditional teachings of Christianity are oppressive. To Christians, the new ideology of LGBTQIA+ is oppressive.
The two are incompatible and mutually exclusive.
The solution is to propose not to impose. Imposition is oppression. Proposition is direction.
Nowhere is oppression by the LGBTQIA+ community more obvious than in the way our government spends our tax dollars.
For starters, the US government spends $28 billion per year for its domestic response to AIDS. Much of that money goes to subsidizing Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). Men take PrEP in order to have multiple partners in some cases as many as 15 per night, all without condoms.
Biden’s FY 2024 budget re-proposed MANDATORY spending on a PrEP delivery program.
The PrEP Delivery Program will provide PrEP and associated services at no cost to uninsured and underinsured individuals and expand the number of providers serving underserved communities. The President request[ed] $237 million in FY 24 for the first year of this multi-year program.
HIV.gov
In other words, taxpayers pay $237 million in order to make it possible for men to have sex without condoms. If they choose to engage in such behavior, they should pay for it themselves. If they can’t afford it, all the better. They can abstain and get better hobbies.
Aside from HIV, does anyone in the LGBTQIA+ community ever consider the bad outcomes of unbridled lust?
If not, here's a short list:
Psychological factors, like decreased well-being, low self-esteem and life satisfaction, increased psychological distress, depression symptoms, addiction, secrecy and separation from others, guilt, shame, fear; and STDs like Chancroid, Chlamydia, Crabs, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, Herpes, HIV/AIDS, HPV/Warts, Human papillomavirus (HPV), Molluscum Contagiosum, Scabies, Syphilis, Trichomoniasis, Vaginal Yeast Vaginosis (BV), Yeast in Men, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) chlamydia, pubic lice, etc.; and social costs like abortion, disolution of family, divorce etc...
Even the disgraced CDC acknowledges that “STIs acquired in 2018 cost the American healthcare system nearly $16 billion in direct medical costs alone.”
Sexual restraint costs nothing.
Lot’s admonition, “Do not do this wicked thing,” is falling again on deaf ears. But it’s not just an admonition against sexual depravity. It’s a warning against stepping on the right of others to follow their conscience and to seek God. It’s our well formed consciences that will lead us to sanctity, and we can’t form them well when we are oppressed.
The angels stepped in to protect Lot and blinded the men who were banging on his door. Still, the Sodomites contin
ued to grope for the door in their darkness. Their lust would not be abated.
Is that true of our LGBTQIA+ friends today? Christians are commanded to love them. But the LGBTQIA+ ideology has no such command to love or to respect, and pride month shows us they have no plans to do so either.
